Mojec prepaid meter troubleshooting: pairing, activation and token errors

Troubleshoot a Mojec prepaid meter or UIU that will not pair, show balance or accept an electricity token.

Mojec meters are deployed in more than one Nigerian distribution area and model. The instructions below follow Ikeja Electric’s published Mojec activation guide; customers of another DISCO should confirm the equivalent steps before entering model-specific codes.

Keep this in mind

The essentials

  • Identify the Mojec name and model on the meter label.
  • Power the UIU on the meter’s utility circuit, not an alternative source.
  • Pair with the meter number only when instructed for your deployment.
  • Load activation or key-change tokens before the energy token when supplied.
  • A persistent failure may be a faulty UIU, faulty meter or lack of transformer supply.

Mojec UIU is not communicating

Ikeja Electric instructs customers to plug the UIU directly into a wall socket in the apartment served by the meter—not an extension—and to use utility supply rather than an alternative source. If energy is exhausted, power the UIU with the appropriate battery where supported.

Mojec meter needs pairing

For the Mojec meter family described in Ikeja Electric’s guide, the customer enters the meter number and presses Enter, then waits for a success response. Do not copy this sequence to a different brand or deployment without confirmation.

New Mojec meter will not accept its first recharge

Confirm the meter has been activated. If two 20-digit activation or key-change tokens were supplied, load them in the displayed order before the energy token. Old unused energy tokens should be handled according to the DISCO’s key-change instructions.

Mojec token shows Reject or does not add units

Check the receipt meter number, re-enter all digits and review the transaction for separate key-change tokens. If the token is marked used, check the balance or token history. If it remains rejected, report the exact display and receipt reference rather than buying again.

When the Mojec meter or UIU is faulty

If communication and power checks pass but the display stays blank or pairing never succeeds, contact the serving DISCO. NERC guidance says confirmed faulty metering equipment should be repaired or replaced by the distribution licensee under the applicable metering rules.

Common questions

Frequently asked

What code checks balance on a Mojec meter?

Ikeja Electric publishes 009 followed by Enter for Mojec meters in its network. Confirm with your own DISCO and exact model before relying on that code.

Why does a Mojec UIU work on battery but not load a token?

The keypad can have power without a communication link to the meter. Restore the approved connection or pairing first, using instructions for the exact deployment.

Can PayTavo repair a Mojec meter?

No. PayTavo can help purchase and track electricity delivery, while physical meter activation, repair, tamper clearing and replacement remain with the serving DISCO or authorised meter provider.
