A Key Change Token is not electricity credit. It updates the security key in an STS prepaid meter so the meter can continue accepting newer energy tokens after the Token Identifier rollover.
Only use KCTs issued for your exact meter by the serving DISCO or its authorised channel.

Why prepaid meters needed an update
STS tokens include a Token Identifier. The 2024 rollover required affected meters with older base dates to receive new security keys. An affected meter that was not updated can reject newer energy tokens even when the payment and token are valid.
The correct customer sequence
AEDC’s published process is: load old unused tokens, enter KCT 1, enter KCT 2, then enter the new energy token. Wait for an acceptance response after each step. Your own DISCO may provide the codes on a receipt, portal or support channel.
What if a KCT is rejected?
Stop before entering later tokens. Confirm the meter number, the order and whether the meter was already upgraded. Contact the DISCO with the exact response. Do not obtain KCTs from social-media comments or unofficial vendors.
What happens to old unused tokens?
Official AEDC guidance says older unused tokens should be loaded before the key change because they can be rejected afterwards. If the key update already happened, ask the DISCO to trace any unused older token rather than repeatedly entering it.

Are KCT 1 and KCT 2 electricity units?
No. They update the meter security key. The energy token is a separate code entered after both key-change tokens succeed.
Can I use another person’s KCT?
No. Key-change tokens are generated for a specific meter and must come from the serving DISCO or an authorised channel.
What if my meter was already upgraded?
Do not repeat a key change without instruction. Check the meter’s upgrade status with the DISCO and enter only the current energy token if confirmed.
